How to gain your Radio Operators Certificate

THE COURSE DESCRIPTION: The aim of this course is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge to perform basic communication practices.

AWARD: Upon successful completion of this course participants will receive the SLSA Radio Operators award.

COURSE CONTENT: Use communication systems and equipment, Transmit and receive communications Maintain communications equipment

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Participants must be a minimum of 13 years of age on the date of final assessment.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The duration of the course is approximately 6-8 hours.  This course includes specific regional and local radio operations based off frequencies, support groups and emergency protocols.

ASSESSMENT: Assessment is through demonstration, presentation and application of all elements in the workplace.  Participants will be required to complete activities that may include role-plays, oral and written questioning, practical demonstrations and performing scenarios.

Do you want a Surf Rescue Certificate?

COURSE DESRIPTION: The aim of the course is to provide participants with the knowledge
of basic patrolling and surf awareness in order to be able to participate in lifesaving operations.  This course is also the minimum water safety requirement for Junior
Activity supervision.

AWARD: Upon successful completion of this course participants will receive the SLSA Surf Rescue award.

COURSE CONTENT: Safety and well being, Surf awareness and skill, First Aid, Resuscitation, Rescue techniques, Signals

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: Participants must be a minimum of 13 years of age on the date of final assessment. Participants must have completed a minimum of 200 metre swim in five minutes or less, in a swimming pool of not less than 25 metres or over a measured open water course before any training starts in the surf and/or deep water.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The duration of the course is approximately 35-45 hours

ASSESSMENT: Assessment is through demonstration, presentation and application of all elements of competency in the workplace. Participants will be required to complete activities that may include oral and written questioning, practical demonstrations and performing scenarios.

I just wanted to let you be aware if you have your Bronze Medallion you have it for life!

If you wish to do a refresher course, it takes approximately a few hours of your time to become proficient again to become an active patrolling member or be part of our Water Safety personnel for Nippers.

Please feel most welcome to come to the Club house at the end of Pacificana Drive, Sussex Inlet, Sunday mornings after 10.00am to look around, and look over what each course requires of you.

We need a minimum number of participants to start a course, so talk to other people, your friends, relatives and people at work, get a group together and join the Surf Club Family Community. Be part of a "Real Social Network"
